This album features EL CORRIDO DE ESEQUIEL HERNANDEZ (La Tragedia De Redford, Texas) the true story of a real tragedy which took place in Redford in May of 1997 when the young Texas high school student, Esequiel Hernandez was killed, by a US Marine, while herding his goats. The killing was the result of our largely misdirected “War on Drugs” under which the US government had sent armed troops to the Mexican border.

REVIEWS

“Santiago, Jr., has made his reputation by sticking to the old ways... But [in] the title track... which celebrates the corrido tradition, in which the song commentary focuses on a real event - he leaps beyond faithful reproduction to deliver a gritty telling of the death of the teenage goat-herder who was shot near the town of Redford two years ago by Marines. It's a whole 'nother perspective than what you've read in the newspaper, which is precisely what a corrido is supposed to be. It's also a fine lead-in to an inspired collection of romantic love songs, bouncy polkas, cumbias, and rancheras so compelling that it's almost enough to make one forget Junior's older brother, Flaco...”

(Joe Nick Patoski — Texas Monthly)

“... a career album that not only demonstrates the great accordion king's genre-defining talents, it also encapsulates the San Antonio native's highlight-filled, 40-year career in one confident flourish, while also promising more triumphs to come.”

(Raoul Hernandez — The Austin Chronicle)
