Arhoolie Records, Frequently Asked Questions

What does the word "Arhoolie" mean?
To quote Chris Strachwitz, from our History page: "Mack suddenly suggested ARWHOOLIE! My initial response was: 'AR what?' But soon the name, at least a part of which apparently means a field holler, seemed rather appropriate for the music I wanted to record."

I'm a recording artist. How can I get signed to Arhoolie?
Please see our A & R page.

Why is the discount different for people who use the online shopping cart, rather than calling on your toll free number?
When people use the shopping cart, it is easier for us, and saves us money (we don't have to pay someone to be on the phone), so we pass those savings on to you, the shopping cart customer.

I'm looking for a rare album by some guy, but I don't see it on your website. Do you know where I can find him?
You should contact Down Home Music Store. They specialize in rare music, and can track down all sorts of odd music.

Do you still sell old Arhoolie LPs?
You bet! The stock on them is rather low in many cases, so it's not practical to have them listed online (in stock one day, gone the next). If you would like the latest listing of the remaining LPs sent to you, send your full address, and clearly state that you would like the LP listing, to order@arhoolie.com.

Why?
Because!
